Visit Tapanappa wines in the Piccadilly Valley in the undulating Adelaide Hills of South Australia, a 30-minute drive from the capital Adelaide and you will find a unique vineyard site that produces the Tiers Chardonnay that adopts the best viticulture and wine making.
At the cellar door, one can taste Xavier and Lucy’s Bizot excellent Terre á Terre wines which include a rosé made with 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay a wonderful dry wine layered with red berries fruit, texture and palate weight.
There’s the 2011 Daosa Blanc de Blanc Methode Traditionelle sparkling wine using hand picked fruit, only the first 550 liters of grape juice ( cuvée ) is pressed, it spends 51 months on lees, 8 months in bottle and 43 months in bottle before released for sale. In time Daosa may well be considered to be one one of Australia’s greatest Blanc de Blancs, it’s a wine that will reward time in the cellar for 15 + years in which it will develop further complexity, only 400 cases of this wine is produced.
The Tapanappa and Terre á Terre wines I tasted in barrel, comparing the latest bottling with older vintages provided a opportunity to taste wines not yet released, something that is currently available to something made earlier proved insightful to the quality of the wines coming from this two wineries in which I have been s big fan of since my London days in 2007.
Production is never large as the vineyards are small in size with each vineyard planted carefully to selected grapes to the different vineyard sites, applying best viticultural and winemaking practices.
